So I'm sure you've heard about Blu-ray players.
I know what you're thinking. You've spent the last few years building up a great collection of DVDs. Then what happens? They bring out another new technology and expect you to start collecting those movies all over again!
I know what you're thinking. No way!
Well, I understand that, that's what I felt at first. But I changed my mind when I saw the advantages of getting a Blu-ray player.
So here's 5 reasons to think about, which may make you change your mind.
1. The cost of Blu-ray is falling.
The format war between HD DVD and Blu-ray meant that the price of discs and players stayed high. Too high. However, now that Blu-ray has won the format war, the prices of players and discs has started to fall. So Blu-ray discs and players are now much more affordable than they were - and getting cheaper by the week.
2. Your existing DVDs will still play.
Blu-ray players can play your old DVDs as well as new Blu-ray discs, so you don't have to get rid of your existing collection of DVDs. Just keep using your existing DVDs and just add to your collection with Blu-ray discs.
3. Your friends and family will be green with envy.
What better reason to make the change! Put a Blu-ray movie on your high-definition TV and
you will see the reaction of your family and friends. If they've never seen a true high-definition picture before, then they won't just be slightly impressed - they will be stunned. 1080p really does look that good! Add the HD audio soundtrack and you really will knock them dead.
4. You can hear the soundtrack in HD surround sound.
You will get 5.1 surround sound on most DVDs - the same as with Bu-ray. However, Blu-ray also gives you an extra high-definition soundtrack. You should get either DTS-HD Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD on a Blu-ray disc - and sometimes both of these. These uncompressed audio formats have a greater clarity and dynamic range than the DVD versions. However, just be aware that your audio playback devices need to support these new formats for you to hear them.
5. 1080p High-definition - the only way to watch a movie!
Get the best from your high-defnition flat screen TV with a Blu-ray player. Blu-ray is one of the few ways you can watch full 1080p high-definition images - and they will look superb on your HDTV. High-definition from your local TV company will only be in 720p or 1080i. To get full 1080p images you need Blu-ray.
Hopefully this has given you something to think about. Here are 5 pretty good reasons why you shouldn't think twice about upgrading your DVD player to Blu-ray. I don't know anybody who has made the change that has thought it was a waste of time and money, and I'm sure you will think the same too.
